ALFA Managing Summer Heat Online Training Series
The training materials focus on preparing feedlots for excessive summer heat conditions that can have major impacts on cattle health, welfare and productivity. All staff involved in making decisions around, or the monitoring of, heat load at the feedlot will benefit from completing this online training program.
It is delivered via a mix of online training videos and a final webinar session with presenters. A short assessment will be used to test your understanding of the topics at the conclusion of the training.

Objectives
Learning Outcomes:
- Be able to formulate a Heat Management Plan for your feedlot.
- Be able to conduct a risk assessment using the Cattle Heat Load Toolbox.
- Be familiar with the concepts relevant to heat management.
- Be able to develop a daily monitoring program with defined triggers and status levels.
- Be able to develop actions to effectively manage heat and heat load events in feedlot cattle.
- Understand how to look after staff wellbeing during and post a heat load event.
- Be familiar with NFAS requirements in order to improve feedlot compliance.
- Understand the basic equipment requirements in order to manage heat effectively.
- Understand where to go to for help, resources and further information on managing summer heat and shade.
