Description
PURPOSE
The Margin & People Management (MPM) Program is designed to provide lot feeders and industry professionals with a deeper understanding of how to manage a modern feedlot business.
Skills required to run any successful business include people management and an understanding of business financials. Therefore, the MPM Program sessions covers topics such as basic financial margin management, time management, setting priorities, human behaviour and how to work more effectively with other people, especially in difficult situations.
The MPM Program aims to instil confidence in each participant to enable them to become a leader in their own business and play a role in advocacy for the feedlot industry.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The MPM Program has been running since the pilot program was established in 2008. The Program now boasts a strong alumni network of over 300 lot feeders and industry professionals, many of whom are now prominent industry leaders.
The Program is run annually over several months, delivered through 4 x 2-day training sessions to a maximum of 12 participants. The group gathers three times in-person for the sessions delivered by a range of facilitators; the final session is a feedlot tour, where participants hear from Feedlot Managers who have graduated from the Program and other prominent industry leaders.
The training is aimed at feedlot employees and industry professionals who aspire to becoming a Manager or gaining a leadership role in their business. It is also valuable for those employees who already manage a number of staff and are looking to gain further skills in the area of people management or perhaps seeking a better understanding of general business management.
GROUP SIZE
The recommend group size is 10 with a maximum of 12.
Ten participants is the optimal group number to create the atmosphere and comradery amongst the group members that this Program aims to deliver. It is also the maximum number of seats available on a mini-bus for the feedlot tour. Keeping to ten participants has allowed us to manage a healthy waitlist to fill future programs and maintain the prestigious reputation of the program. It is recommended that if numbers exceed 10, an additional staff member is allocated to assist in managing the group.
There are currently 23 people on the waitlist/EOI list for Course 16 as at August 2023. There is an additional MPM Program being delivered in 2024 (course 15), to assist in meeting the demand. Post the two programs in 2024, we expect the list will be reduced to around 11, which will be beneficial going into Course 17 in 2025.
TRAINING FEES
The ALFA price structure for the previous year (2023/24) is provided in the appendix for reference. An increase of 2.5% from 2024 price has been applied. The fee is to assist in covering presenter fees, catering/venue expenses and contributes to the overall running of the Association.
