Introduction to Feedlot Maintenance - Maintenance Fundamentals (Module 1/4)

The maintenance team ensures the daily upkeep of the entire feedlot. This can involve vehicle and equipment maintenance, and improvements to pens, roads and infrastructure. 

We will explore the foundations of feedlot maintenance practices, enabling you to prevent issues, minimise downtime and uphold safety standards.

This module will cover:

• Understanding the importance of proactive maintenance for feeding, water systems, and pens.
• Clarifying the roles and responsibilities within the maintenance team.
• Reporting and escalating maintenance issues effectively.
• Identifying and addressing key areas requiring maintenance, such as feeding equipment, water troughs, and roads.
• Implementing safe practices in feedlot maintenance, including hazard awareness and injury prevention.
• Selecting and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Preparing for emergencies with effective response protocols and first aid practices.
• Developing preventative maintenance schedules to extend equipment lifespan and improve reliability.
• Budgeting for maintenance to balance routine costs and unexpected repairs.
