This course is part of the Pen Riding: Mastering the Fundamentals online skills training Successfully removing an animal requires both skill and patience, all while keeping the animal's wellbeing a top priority and minimising stress levels. Obtain the knowledge to adhere to safe work practices, recognise removal risks, document crucial information, and employ low-stress handling techniques to remove animals from their pens. This online course covers the steps to safely and effectively remove animals from their pens. After completion of the online training, an on the ground competency assessment is available so you can demonstrate your skills and competency in this area. This E-learning series has been by funded grain-fed levies and matching federal government R&D contributions in consultation with the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association.

Join resident facilitators, Jeff House and Emily Litzow, live as they guide you and the team through some of Feedlot TECHs online courses. Each month, a new module will be presented as live, interactive group training. The access fee is per feedlot/business, and covers all staff that wish to partake in the training session.

Team Leaders play an important role in developing confident, capable staff who work together and contribute to the smooth running of their feedlot. This course will teach you the fundamental skills needed to become a successful mentor and Team Leader within your feedlot.

As a bunk caller, your primary objective is to ensure the consistent and accurate allocation of feed to cattle in your feedlot. By mastering the art of bunk management, you can manage feed allocation, minimise wastage, and contribute to the overall success and wellbeing of the cattle in your care. Completing this module will help you to: Identify the bunk caller’s roles and responsibilities Examine key success factors and core challenges Comprehend the impacts of poor bunk management Perform basic calculations for efficient feed allocation Recognise daily feeding routines and other teams involved

At the core of bunk calling is the bunk sheet. Bunk callers use this essential tool daily for feed allocation and intake monitoring. Being able to interpret the bunk sheet enables you to make informed decisions about bunk management. This module is designed to help you: Read and interpret data in bunk sheets Make decisions based on bunk sheet data Perform basic calculations for efficient feed allocation Comprehend the importance of accurate record keeping

As a bunk caller, managing feed intake whilst promoting the health and growth of the cattle under your care is fundamental to your role. Understanding feeding programs and adaptation to high concentrate diets enables cattle to successfully transition through feeding stages, ensuring their wellbeing and enhancing feedlot performance.
